Fewer Migrants... for now...
The elections are just over and surprise surprise there is no clear winner. The country will continue with a caretaker government for least a week, maybe longer.
Immigration has been one of the biggest issue on the agenda. Both major parties are promising to cut down on
the number of migrants and take a harder line on illegals and refugees. Australia has also enjoyed a
record breaking stretch of economy growth and prosperity in the last 15
years. Without a skilled labour force to support that growth the wheels on the economy may grind to a halt.
Have you already applied for residency or are you still trying to meet the requirements? Are you worried that the door is closing and you've missed your chance?
Have a look at this animation of the net migration rate of OECD countries below. Click play and roll your cursor over the bubbles!
Over the long term the Australian net migration rate does rise and fall as is normal but most importantly hasn't reduced by more than a few percent and has stayed strongly in positive territory.
So don't worry no matter which party is ruling they will ultimately be pragmatic, prosperity comes first! If you have the skills that are in need you will get in.
